What is a good gift for a male host? Not flowers or wine?
Hi all,
A family friend has invited my daughter and me to dinner at his place. What’s a good gift to bring?
I don’t know that flowers are appropriate, and he does not drink. So wine is out of the question.
He is also a diabetic who really struggles with it.
I’d like to bring him something, but what…
Ack
Thanks all
I think flowers are fine to take to men! Otherwise, you could take some nice crackers or salted nuts or something. Tell him not to open them right now, they are for him to serve or enjoy some other time. If he can’t eat them, he could regift them if the package isn’t opened.

What about a dessert? You could bring some angel food cake (very low sugar) and some canned cherries (they make some with no sugar added). Or maybe some kind of sugar free ice cream and fruit.

a potted plant? A nice candle for the house? Ussually a hostes gift is something for the house or to “warm” the house. That is why flowers for the table are perfectly appropriate.

How about renting a blockbuster movie instead to watch, or maybe even a thank you card. You can also try making him an appropriate pie, or cake, but too bad he’s diabetic. Maybe a homemade soup, or even some fruit?

Yeah, definitely some kind of dessert dish. I wouldn’t get him anything to decorate his house with, so I dunno bout all that.

I like to entertain a lot but rarely drink. Some of the nicest gifts I received as a host was…
Bamboo Serving Platter
A basket of upscale BBQ sauces (i enjoy grilling)
A Basket of 3 types of bread

A selection of different mustards.

How about you purchase a small wicker basket, buy “sugar free” jams and jellies, place them in the basket and wrap with colored saran wrap. Put a bow and there you go.

A slection of different kinds of cheese may be nice.
I also liked the idea someone else mentioned of bread. In Roman times it was once considered a standard show of gratitude to bring bread, wine, or flavored salts to a dinner you’ve been invited to.
