Is it tacky to serve 1.5 liter bottles of wine at party?

We are having a medium sized (50 or so guests) anniversary party. I wanted to save a bit of money on corkage fees so I thought of serving larger bottles of wine. Do you think this will look tacky vs. regular sized wine bottles?
Um… no. No twist caps.

If it is good wine and bottled in 1.5 liter bottles it was meant to be drank… in whatever atmosphere, climate, or setting you choose. I work at a high end restaurant and frankly it just makes more sense even thou I loose money because of it.

How do I pack wine bottles so they don't break during an international trip?

My husband and I are flying from Germany to the U.S., and I've already made sure that we're under the customs limit, so that's no problem.

What should I pack the wine in, and how should I pack them, so that they don't break on the way over?
Well they lost our luggage, so we won't know if I packed the wine right until they find it…so I guess this question is going up for vote. If anyone checks in, thanks for your answers!

Bubble wrap, and in your hand luggage. I'm the voice of experience!!

Would you say drinking 5 bottles of wine over a weekend, every weekend is too much?

My husband doesn’t drink at all in the week but on a Friday he’ll bring home some wine for the weekend and will happily drink the lot - between 4 - 6 bottles before Monday.
He's 38, if that makes a difference!
This is done at home.

that’s 40-60 units over the weekend, 21 units a WEEK is the maximum recommended for men, so even allowing for a few more that’s pretty excessive, won’t be doing his liver any good.

How many 750ml bottles of wine can you make out of 1 Gallon?

I'm thinking of having a go at home brew for christmas but not sure if it's going to be any cheaper than actually going to tesco and buying the wine, the kit is £19.99 plus postage at £2.95 and makes one gallon of wine but how many standard size bottles will i get out of this? Will it be worth it?

One 750 ml bottle is called a "fifth" because it's (approximately) a fifth of a gallon. However, in homebrewing, there are a number of steps that reduce your total volume in the end. Intermediate steps include siphoning the clarified wine as it's fermenting into a secondary container. This leaves behind most of the sediment, but also a small portion of the wine (called "racking"). After secondary fermentation, you'll either rack it again or bottle. Again, you're siphoning off of the sediment ("lees") and will take away less than all of it. You can reliably expect between 4 and 4 1/2 bottles when you're done.

We are having 5 kegs at our wedding a wondering how many bottles of wine we need (red, white & champagne). We have a lot of drinkers coming and so I'm not really sure how much we need. We are not serving hard alcohol.
There will be about 200 people attending

14 boxes of red, 26 boxes of white and as many cases of champagne as you can fit in your Land Rover.+

I’ve been saving wine bottles and glass jars, thinking I would think of something to make w/ them for Christmas presents by now… I’m running out of time!

Any cool ideas?

You can make drinking glasses out of them. www.instructables.com has several instructions for this…..http://www.instructables.com/id/Drinking-Glasses-from-Wine-Bottles/
