Why do wine bottles have corkscrews?

I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to open a bottle of wine. I got so frustrated with the corkscrew I had to ask myself if it was worth it. My hands hurt from using the cork screw tool, I'm frustrated that it took so long to open. Why use a corkscrew when a twist top will do?
Okay correction, Why do wine bottles have corks. Happy Now.

The process of making wine causes a gas so by putting on the corkscrew it keeps that in the bottle. Another thing is a cork screw enhances the flavor which is why most people will smell the cork screw before pouring the wine.

ts my 21st birthday and i've had a few nice wines in my time but i've never actually looked at the label!

So i want a white wine thats quite sweet, not more than £10 that i can get somewhere like Asda or Morrisons. Even M & S.

Doesnt matter if its sparkling and i was recommended Austrailian wine but cant find anything thats not dry!

Its my bday on the 16h Aug so i need lots of quick responses!!

spanish sweet is the nicest I think - sadly the supermarkets stack everything but sweet usually -despite my protestations and letters, to morrisons in particular.
Those dopes think sweet wine is a desert wine which is far too sweet and sickly.

Talamanco is only 3 pounds ish if you can find it …..

If you can find some its important to deeply chill it then enjoy…… its lovely

the absolute best place to buy wine on-line if you live on the east coast is garyswine.com, on the west coast its klwines.com. I buy a lot of wines and it is best to buy when friends or family purchase together that way you split the shipping.

im frying chickenon a pan and want to season it and soak it with some red wine. any not as expensive ones?

Try Gallo red sweet vermouth.
Add some crushed dried rosemary, dry basil and parsley flakes and chopped garlic.
Marinate your chicken in it for at least two hours.

Quick fry (about 5 min each side) the chicken in peanut oil (make sure oil is at least 350 degrees) on all sides till brown but not cooked. Remove chicken from oil and place in baking pan. Take some of the marinade and pour it in frying pan. Caramelize these two and pour into baking pan with the chicken. Bake chicken for about 10 minutes or until brown on each side(15 to 20 min. total) .
****While chicken is baking saute some mushrooms in the wine mixture. Pour these over the top of chicken while its in oven in the last 10 minutes or so.

How to clean wine bottles?

Just yesterday my mom's boyfriends house burnt down due to a natural gas leak. He has quite a few wine bottles, and is going to pay me for cleaning them. I only need the outside cleaned, because they are caked with ash. How can I clean them without damaging the label?

Use a slightly damp rag to remove the thickest of the ash, avoiding the areas covered by the label. Next, if you have them, use small paintbrushes to flake away the the ash over the labels. If there is still an overlay, slightly dampen a painbrush to remove the remaining ash on the labels. Do not wipe at the labels with a cloth, as this will cause peeling and tearing. Lastly, wrap the bottle with a clean cloth and lay it on it's side to absorb any moisture still on the labels.

What's a good dry or sweet wine to serve with steak or chicken? Can I serve one wine with both?

I'm on a budget, so is a good wine possible for $20-$25?

I would look for a nice pinot noir - it's light enough to go with the chicken but heady enough to pair with the steak. I don't recommend Arbor Mist though - that is not a true wine, it's a mix of wines, usually with fruit juices, and it's very sweet. You're looking for something a little on the drier side than that. And you can easily find a nice bottle of wine within your price range! You will find you have a lot of choices!

I received a bottle of 2006 Sunrise Carmenere Chile Wine for a gift?

Id like to know if it is good to cook with, and I am curious as to the value. Thanks!

Sunrise is a brand of the good value Concha y Toro winery in Chile.

Carmenere is a grape variety so similar to Merlot that for many years until recently it was assumed to be Merlot, but I think Carmenere is richer and more lush, and it made the reputation of Chile 'Merlots' :)

Cook with it? Yes, no problem and it will be good to drink. It is by no means an expensive wine, around $6-$10 depending on the outlet.

my husband and i like Eco Domani and Luna Di Luna wines made from Italy, where can i find a case of this without paying an a high price?

It depends on where you live. Usually if you have a liquor store that you like to shop @ and they recognize you, they will try to do something nice for you on the price, especially if you say you want to buy by the case!

Hope this helps. cheers
