4 Stars - Restaurant Wine Online
Best Buy & 88 Points - SD Union Tribune

Elegant, well balanced, and juicy, the Vina Robles 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from Paso Robles Huerhuero Vineyard on the east side of the expansive Central Coast appellation. Awarded 4 Stars by Restaurant Wine Online and named a Best Buy with 88 Points by Robert Whitely of Wine Talk at San Diego Union Tribune, this Cabernet Sauvignon is very characteristic of Paso Robles, showing lovely soft red fruit and an alluring floral characteristic with impressive potential to age well. Vina Robles 2005 Cabernet is also Recommended with 3 Stars from Decanter magazine. Deep dark, bright garnet in color, this wine has an intense bouquet of dark sweet fruits with dominating senses of blackberry and blueberry, complimented by notes of tobacco and toasty oak. This is a supple, full-bodied, rich flavored Cabernet Sauvignon that has intense fruitiness of blueberry and dark fruits, light oakiness, bright tannins and excellent balance, with a medium finish.

The Happy Hour Guys at Palmina Winery!

Posted on June 24th, 2009 by admin

Filed under italian wines | 4 Comments »

The Happy Hour Guys take their first official trip to Southern California! After landing in LA and spending some time snooping around Historic Bars in the City of Angels (teaser for next week’s episode), Jimmy and the Happy Hour Babe, Lisa Datz, made their way to Santa Barbara County and the Santa Ynez Valley; there, in a small town named Lompoc and nestled unobtrusively in an industrial park, is a place they’d heard whispers about, Palmina Winery.

Winemaker Steve Clifton started Palmina in 1995, becoming one of the first artisans in the Santa Ynez Valley to introduce solely Italian varietal wines to the Southern California soil, and subsequently, the Southern Californian palate. Turns out that the Santa Barbara County climate matches that of the Northern Italian wine regions, and Steve saw an opportunity to recreate these traditional wines in a no-holds-barred, California way, while still holding to the Italian ideal of wines being an extension of the plate, something enjoyed with food and friends.

And did he deliver! These wines are spectacular. Join us as Jimmy makes his way through an Italian pronunciation clinic, Lisa doesn’t want to leave the Wine Library (too much studying to do), and we try some incredible wines with names we’d never heard before.

Remember, at The Happy Hour Guys, were always in search of something new, and are never afraid to try it. Join us!

Cheers!

what is a good sweet wine that isnt bitter?

Posted on June 17th, 2009 by admin

Filed under sweet wine | 4 Comments »

I dont like beer, but i like fruity liquors (i.e. bacardi watermelon rum) but tonight i want to try some wine. i find wine terribly romantic but the only wine i have tried was rather bitter. are there any resonably priced wines that i could maybe get at the grocery store that are sweet or fruity? any ideas?

Try White Zinfandel. They're actually blush colored.
Beringer is good.
It's on sale at any of the larger liquor stores ($9)
Also, more expensive ($14) and very sweet is the American Riesling from The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey.

Cabernet Sauvignon (1 of 4) Episode 3 Jancis Robinson’s Wine Course

Cabernet Sauvignon (1 of 4) Episode 3 Jancis Robinson’s Wine Course
www.jancisrobinson.com

The third episode of Jancis Robinson’s Wine Course - a beautifully filmed tour of the world of wine presented and written by Jancis Robinson and based on dozens of stunning locations in four continents.

Each of the ten half-hour programmes is centred on a major grape variety or theme but provides a complete wine education including how wine is made, tasted, stored and enjoyed.

See more at www.JancisRobinson.com - updated daily and the only place you’ll find all of the Oxford Companion to Wine and all of the World Atlas of Wine maps online

For my money, the site worth paying for is www.jancisrobinson.com’ - LA Times survey of wine websites

A 2-disc PAL version of the DVD is available from Amazon UK. It is distributed by B-motion of Holland in Europe.
